In a significant development for the judiciary in Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of eight Judicial Officers as Judges of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. The decision was made during the Collegium's meeting held on April 2, 2025.
The approved judicial appointments include Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Shri Abdul Shahid, Shri Anil Kumar-X, Shri Tej Pratap Tiwari, Shri Sandeep Jain, Shri Avnish Saxena, Shri Madan Pal Singh, and Shri Harvir Singh.
This move comes as part of the ongoing efforts to address judicial vacancies and strengthen the bench of the Allahabad High Court, which is one of the largest high courts in India with jurisdiction over the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.
The appointment of these officers is expected to help reduce the pending case backlog and improve the efficiency of judicial proceedings in the region. Each appointee brings years of experience in the judicial system, having served in various capacities before this elevation to the High Court bench.
The recommendations will now be forwarded to the Union Law Ministry, which will process these appointments after necessary clearances before the formal appointment orders are issued by the President of India.
The Allahabad High Court has historical significance as one of the oldest high courts in India, established in 1866, and these new appointments will contribute to its continued legacy in the Indian judicial system.
